Our experience with Scott was wonderful, thanks to his exceptional depth of knowledge and expertise in preparing students for the SAT. We used Scott for all three of our children, and they improved each time dramatically in their scores.

He has an amazing ability to break down challenging subject matter and provide strategic guidance that made a world of difference in our kid’s performances. Covid19 came, and school switched to being virtual. We engaged both Annette and Scott to support our children’s remote learning. Needless to say, they were outstanding. Mr. Scott Brians has been a wonderful algebra tutor for our son. At times when our son is unmotivated or distracted, Mr. Brians is the perfect combination of patient, assertive, and motivating to get him back on track. Nate really appreciates his teaching style and says he’s the best math tutor he’s ever had. With that said, he has maintained his A in honors algebra. As we begin our high school journey we would be lucky to have Mr. Brians support as we tackle the more challenging math and physics ahead. I usually look and try at least a few teachers before I commit to learning in languages, sports, business. With Annette, I did not have to look more after our first lesson learning German. Annette is fully devoted, professional, knowledgeable, and creative. It is interesting to navigate through the lessons and homework together. I am glad that Annette can take on a challenge to switch promptly. She not only sticks to the curriculum but develops and modifies lessons as we go. There is a sense of easiness and curiosity when I go to the lessons. I received extensive German language training from Dr. Annette Brians for over nine months in preparation for an overseas assignment in a German speaking country. Dr. Brians provided exceptional tutoring services and language training. From the beginning, she consistently made me feel comfortable speaking and expressing myself in German. The tempo of instruction and pace of correction was perfectly balanced. Dr. Brians initially let me speak with minimal correction to encourage confidence and eagerness to speak in the target language. At an appropriate pace, she gradually incorporated increasing correction to and feedback on my conversation, allowing me to correct mistakes and improve my speaking, while at the same time not discouraging me from further dialogue.

Almost as important as Dr. Brians’ complete mastery of the German language was her understanding of English and its nuances. She made great efforts to fully explain the meaning and nuances of German words and phrases, including noting examples of literal and figurative uses of the words or phrases, and noting when certain expressions were more colloquial versus when used in formal speech. Similarly, she did an excellent job of conveying the meanings into English, always looking for the best way to convey the definition in a way that would be expressed or understood in English.

Dr. Brians tailored the language training to fit my needs and interests, while still ensuring that all necessary elements of language instruction were covered. She diligently sought out stories, articles, and themes of discussion that fit into my personal and professional interests, and that would help to prepare me for my life and work in a German speaking country. She also balanced out grammar instruction with time spent reading, talking, and learning vocabulary. She worked with me to further hone my pronunciation and taught methods to quickly break down long compound words into individual portions that could more easily be recognized and correctly pronounced by a native English speaker. Dr. Brians was also extremely flexible, working with me to find an optimal schedule, including shifting hours during the Coronavirus and adjusting for periodic family needs on my part.

Dr. Brians demonstrated an exemplary mix of professional excellence and personal engagement. In addition to being a substantive expert and an outstanding teacher, she was also consistently positive and energetic, encouraging me to strive to learn and master the language. Dr. Brians made language learning fun. I always looked forward to German class and never dreaded even what could be difficult or complex subjects. Dr. Brians fully prepared me for my language examination and for my onward assignment. She was a pleasure to work with and I would highly recommend her for any level of tutoring, particularly language instruction.

Annette and Scott are extraordinary instructors, and I would recommend them to anyone. I had a wonderful time with them. I thank them greatly. The lessons were designed individually. I did writing tasks and also prepared and gave speeches. Naturally, I also had to do homework, which we discussed in detail and analyzed in the next lesson. We discussed and spoke about several themes.

During the whole time I felt very comfortable. I also realized that learning in English during the English sessions was no problem. My questions were always answered pleasantly and in detail. When I didn´t understand something, Annette and Scott gave me a comprehensive explanation.

It is our honor and absolute pleasure to recommend Dr. Annette Brians for tutoring children. Annette taught French to our seven-year old son during our stay in the United States between December 2018 and April 2019. Our son is schooled in a high profile public school in Germany. He is taught bilingually in German and French. When our son came back to Germany, he had made incredible progress in French because of Annette’s teaching. He received the best possible grade in French (a “1”) at the end of the school year in-spite of his long absence from school. His French teacher in Germany – who is a native French speaker – was amazed at his perfect French pronunciation. She also found that our son had personally developed far more than his classmates over the time of his absence from class. This huge success is all a result of Annette’s teaching. My son really enjoyed Scott Brians' classes and credits him with sparking his interest in the physical sciences. Previously, math class ruled, science class was tolerated. Scott's superbly organized teaching style, approachable demeanor and clear explanations kept my son challenged, engaged and motivated throughout the year. Scott worked with a student over Skype to prepare for her Biology and Algebra midterms. The student scored a 98% in Biology, the highest score in the class, and a 93% in Algebra.

Finding tutors online is a gamble; I'd gone through several tutors who just didn't click for me when I started my attempt to learn German. A good tutor is adaptive, responsive, focused, and open to new approaches to the material at hand, whatever that may be, and Annette certainly possesses all of the above qualities in abundance. Prior to the coaching sessions, my French level was already advanced: I studied French in college, speak regularly with family members who are native speakers, and I have had numerous opportunities to practice during trips to France. Dr. Brians helped me fine-tune my French speaking abilities during free-flowing conversation with on-the-fly correction, the reading of classical and contemporary French literature and working through her Mastering French Conversation course. She had me speak French throughout our entire sessions and only intervened with English when necessary. She continually took note of vocabulary and grammar for future repetition, and even recorded vocabulary for me to practice French pronunciation.

I took private French lessons with Dr. Annette Brians for three months, and during this time my French language skills progressed far more than my year of French classes in college. Especially with language learning, having a French speaker guide you through conversation while being able to fix errors in grammar and pronunciation proved to be immensely helpful. Learning new concepts comes much easier with a tutor as well, since Annette was able to articulate the distinctions between the various French tenses and peculiarities, and the major differences they have with English—something I had a hard time discerning in a large classroom setting. Our sessions were very productive, and I learned new concepts and expanded upon old and weak ones every day. If you want to become fluent in the French language, I highly recommend using Annette’s services as she can guide you through spoken conversation and is skilled at discerning weak points in a learner’s understanding to strengthen them.
